The newly generated electron-hole was accelerated after the electric field crashed into other valence electrons, the carrier avalanche increased, causing the current to increase sharply, this breakdown called avalanche breakdown. No matter which breakdown, if no restriction on its current, can cause permanent damage to PN junction.
